I built for You a throne in my heart
but oh, my Lord, You would not rest
until the throne was mine
and the heart Yours.
You willed it, Lord, and it was so.
You willed it, and it was as though
it had forever been this way.
I understand now that it has.
If I say, Beloved, that my heart
exists within You
as Yours exists within me
do I do You a disservice?
I am too small and You too vast
for me to think to contain any part of You,
and yet I know it to be true.
What a contradiction this life is.
What a joy.
